TaniPintar helps rice farmers in Indonesia make climate-ready planting decisions by combining seasonal forecasts, AI recommendations, and practical field data in one mobile workflow.

TaniPintar is a mobile application designed to help Indonesian rice farmers adapt to the growing challenges of climate change. In regions like Tabanan, Bali, where agriculture is deeply rooted in the traditional Subak irrigation system, climate uncertainty has become a critical threat. Farmers face increasingly unpredictable rainfall, with early rains forcing them to rush land preparation and delayed rains disrupting planting cycles. In extreme cases, sudden floods can devastate crops, leaving farmers emotionally and financially distressed.

To address this urgent need, TaniPintar integrates cutting-edge technology with local agricultural wisdom. It combines ECMWF SEAS5 seasonal rainfall forecasts with AI-generated narrative recommendations, converting complex meteorological data into clear, actionable insights that align with the needs of farmers and agricultural extension workers.

  • Accurate Forecasts: Weekly and monthly rainfall predictions visualized with color-coded risk indicators for drought and flood.

  • User-Centered Design: Simple, intuitive interface developed with React Native and supported by a robust Laravel-Redis backend, ensuring smooth performance even in low-connectivity areas.

Impact

Deep interviews with nine agricultural extension officers across Penebel, Tabanan City, Megati, and Kerambitan revealed that TaniPintar directly addresses a critical gap in farmers’ decision-making. During field trials, extension workers confirmed that the app’s predictions were as accurate as official BMKG data but more comprehensive (covering up to four months). They praised its ease of use, clear visuals, and narrative explanations, which empower farmers—especially those with limited climate literacy—to make informed choices.

TaniPintar does not replace the traditional Subak system; rather, it strengthens it, providing data-driven support that helps preserve Bali’s cultural heritage while improving agricultural resilience. By reducing crop losses, lowering financial risks, and supporting sustainable farming practices, TaniPintar contributes to food security and farmer well-being in an era of climate uncertainty.
